Bequia, Grenadines

The most wonderful places always take a little extra effort to get to, and Bequia is no exception. Make this tiny, and very lush, lightning bolt-shaped island the start of your journey hopping around the Grenadines, with a stay at Bequia Beach Hotel. Run by a Swedish family called the Mortstedts, you are always on island time at this relaxed hideaway on Friendship Beach, a sweeping stunner on the Atlantic side.. Start your day with a swim in the sea, before drifting between the Sand Bar for fish tacos and pina coladas at the Bequia Beach bar. Round it all off, after a snooze in your beachfront suites, with a lobster dinner at Bagatelle. And then repeat for the rest of your stay — with brief interludes to shuttle over to Jack’s on Princess Margaret Beach for lunch, and a mooch around the daily market in the harbor, Port Elizabeth.

Marrakech, Morocco

Surrounded by lush Mediterranean gardens, Jnane Tamsna is one of the most idyllic spots just outside Marrakech. Set on nine acres within a private estate, we love to stay here in the winter months when the temperatures are in the blissful low twenties and do very little. Enjoying its garden-fresh menu, swimming pools, and, if we are feeling like something a little more strenuous, a tagine cookery lesson, a game of tennis, or a wander among its herb gardens, olive groves, lemon trees, and date palms. For venturing into the Red City itself, Charlotte Rey’s insider guide is all you need.

St Moritz, Switzerland

St Moritz always tops our winter favorites lists, but the 2024 season is particularly special thanks to a new opening at heritage Engadin hotel, Kulm. The celebrated British artist Luke Edward Hall has designed its new restaurant, Amaru, which will serve up a dynamic Peruvian menu by Lima-born chef Claudia Canessa. Some of the new rooms and suites have also been reinvigorated by Pierre-Yves Rochon in a refined Alpine style.

Or, you can stay at the fairytale-like Suvretta House, which has its own ski lift and is the only ski-in/ski-out hotel in St Moritz. During your stay, you can make the most of skiing or snowboarding the Corviglia, Diavolezza and Corvatsch areas, as well as sledding, curling, and watching the antics on the infamous Cresta Run and Olympic ice rink.

Valais, Switzerland

This month, we’re headed to the Val d’Anniviers, an elegant ski resort in the St-Luc and Chandolin area, where you can access more than 200km of slopes with a single ski pass. In addition, there are 150km of ski touring routes and 35km of winter hiking and snowshoe paths. Our favorite place to bed down is the pretty Hotel Bella Tola, a historic mountain retreat that is rooted in its surrounding nature. Recognizable for its white facade and lovely pale blue shutters. Dating back to 1859, it is the passion project of Anne-Françoise and Claude Buchs-Favre, who have sensitively restored the property to its former glory. It has 28 elegant bedrooms that overlook magnificent snow-capped peaks, including the Matterhorn, plus cozy lounges for whiling away your evenings in quiet style. When it comes to dinner, you can go full French fancy at Chez Ida, or settle in for mountain classics such as raclette at Le Tzambron. Don’t miss the in-house, high-altitude spa, L’O des Cimes, which makes the most of local Alpine herbs and flowers.

Alpe Di Susi, Dolomites, Italy

Alpe di Susi is the largest mountain plateau in Europe, with five pretty villages sitting in its foothills. One of these villages, Castelrotto, is home to the Schgaguler — a sleek and minimalist hotel built by local architect Peter Pichler in a contemporary Nordic style. From each of its vast, peak-like windows there are spectacular views of the surrounding Dolomites. It is a truly family affair here, with owner Tobias arming you with the best local tips as you leave each day and his sister Sandra, the hotel’s sommelier, recommending the perfect wines at dinner, or which nearby wineries to visit during your stay to taste South Tyrol’s Lagrein grape. After a quite frankly stunning breakfast, where everything is made in-house or sourced locally, get out and explore the plateau on skis or a hike, before heading back in time for an alfresco jacuzzi and aperitivo.

Rye, UK

February is famously not the UK’s best weather month, which is why we like to get out of London during this petite month’s weekends and hole up somewhere super cozy. For 2024, we have our sights set on the cobbled streets of historic Rye, and the fabulous Historic Rye Townhouse. A 700-year-old Grade II-listed townhouse in the shadow of the town’s last remaining medieval gateway, it has all the character — wonky floors included — that you could ask for in such a stay. There are five generous bedrooms, including a bunk bed room for kids, the perfect country kitchen, and lots of interiors and artsy touches that urbanites will appreciate. You can walk into town for pastries at Whitehouse Rye in the morning, jump in the car for a bracing walk (and even more bracing swim, for the brave) at nearby Camber Sands. Also just five minutes away is Tillingham Vineyard, where you can have an epic tasting dinner, and stock up on its Pinot Noir sparkling for the rest of your stay. While you’re there, pop into McCully & Crane, a gallery-come-interiors shop, and Soap & Salvation, where a husband and wife duo sells antiques.
