Chesa Grischuna
Synonymous with the glamorous Swiss ski resort of Klosters, Chesa Grischuna is a simple but charming hotel that has remained true to its roots since it was opened by Hans Guler in 1938. A feat of Landi design and craftsmanship, it became a place of refuge for American GIs during the Second World War, as well as film stars, directors, and writers— earning it the name “Hollywood on the Rocks.” Greta Garbo, Gene Kelly, and Rex Harrison have all signed the guestbook in this historic house.

What's the Story
- Conceived in 1938 by Zurich architect Hermann Schneider and lovingly designed by him down to the last detail, it established itself as "Hollywood on the Rocks" shortly after opening. A special place where stars like Greta Garbo, Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire celebrated exuberant parties. They were joined by crowned heads, brilliant minds and political visionaries like Churchill, who appreciated the dignified atmosphere coupled with excellence. Their children and grandchildren, British high aristocracy and international entrepreneurs, are still regular guests at the Chesa, which thanks to the new owners Astrid von Stockar and Clemens Gregor is once again basking in the glory of old times. The listed house was carefully renovated according to the requirements of the times without losing sight of its historical roots.
Wine & Dine
- The hotel is renowned for its gourmet restaurant, overseen by Austrian chef Ronald Fressner, (Gault & Millau 15 points) who layers his classic French cuisine background with dashes of the local region and the Mediterranean. Expect a focus on fish dishes, such as roasted sole with Champagne beurre blanc, Perigord truffle, pointed cabbage, and Albula mountain potato.
- The legendary Chesa Bar has seen some action in its time, with Gene Kelly tap-dancing his way across it on many late nights in winter, with the grand piano in full flow. Painted by renowned artist Hans Schoellhorn, the bar is a real beauty and one of Klosters’ finest.

Location & Setting
- Situated in the immediate centre of the village, Chesa Grischuna is only 100m away from the train station and cable car station.
- The nearby Flüela Pass attracts classic car and rally fans from all over the world. It leads via Davos into the lower Engadine, from where you can reach St. Moritz in no time. The route impresses with high alpine natural spectacles: Side valleys with river courses, lakes and exciting rock formations are just as enticing as the view of animal motifs. These include ibexes, marmots and ptarmigans.
The Destination
Klosters, which has been hosting illustrious personalities for over 90 years, including many crowned heads, has a special hotel jewel in its midst in the form of the Chesa Grischuna. It is not only an architectural work of art, but also occupies a special place in the long tradition of Swiss hospitality. It offers great skiing for all abilities, some of the longest runs (12 km), and the most exciting skiing in Europe, thrilling off-piste, as well as the wide open slopes of the famous Parsenn. Klosters shares its extensive skiing network with the nearby town of Davos, which combined has 190 miles (307km) of downhill piste, with 97 individual pistes, served by 52 lifts.
There are miles of cross-country ski trails as well as skating, sledding (with 7 long sled runs), horse riding, horse-drawn sleigh rides, winter polo, snowshoe trekking, snowboarding (with access to a half pipe), paragliding, swimming, bowling, tennis, and squash.

Royal History
- Klosters is a firm favorite of the Royals. Prince Charles and Diana took their sons on regular Ski trips to the Swiss town and the local cable car is named after the former Prince of Wales.
How to Get There
- You can easily reach Zurich airport in just one and a half hours. You can also take the train from Zurich to Klosters, which takes approx. 2h40.
