From buzzing cityscapes to a new art place on the Balearic Islands, September's serene weather and less tourists make it an excellent time to enjoy the last weeks of summer. Here's our eight recommendations to make the most of your month ahead. As always, contact us for best rates and to book your trip.

Paris, France

Yes Paris, in August and September.. Not exactly the top of mind summer destination spot, as most of your instagram is likely posting a beach or lake photo, perhaps from the Mediterranean or a spot equally as breezy to ward off the hottest days of the year. The big cities are lovely at this time, a bit quieter than usual, more well-maintained due to mandates and restrictions, and easier to explore, despite what historical travel may say. The feeling here is that the world is beginning to become alive again. In a city and country that was crushed, it’s a terrific feeling. People are warm, respectful, perhaps distant, but still warm, and maybe more self aware, more forgiving, and more willing to enjoy the moments that matter. It’s an optimistic vibe we all need following a somber year and a half. Cities are having a revival. And as most of our team spent their time in la Métropole recently, there’s plenty of new content for the Francophiles.

Royal Scotsman Train, Scotland

Riding Royal Scotsman is one of those pinch-me moments. Ranking among the world’s most luxurious trains, the mahogany-clad cars marry Edwardian elegance with the comforts of a country house. Ten intricately designed carriages, including the sublime Bamford Spa, form a palace on wheels.

Experience

Enjoy the ultimate Royal Scotsman experience with the classic Scottish Highlands tour, travelling through some of the country's finest scenery. Available September 13-17 for 2 adults from GBP 6,000.

Devon, England

We defy anyone to find a more beautiful spot in the whole of England. There is no traffic or aircraft noise, no light pollution, just the sound of the Tamar river. It’s little wonder that the Duke of Bedford, who owned a third of Devon, chose this spot for his hunting and fishing lodge.

Stay at Endsleigh

Kleine Scheidegg, Switzerland

Here alpine cowhirts, Eiger North Face climbers and visitors from around the globe can rub shoulders. The Eiger-trail leads in 1 hour 50 minutes from the Eiger Glacier Station (a 10-minute ride from Kleine Scheidegg) to Alpiglen. It is one of Switzerland’s most impressive hiking tours.

Stay at the iconic Bellevue des Alpes

Menorca, Balearic Islands, Spain

Located in the port of Mahon in Menorca, Hauser & Wirth’s new art center on Isla del Rey opened on 19 July. An exhibition by Mark Bradford will inaugurate Hauser & Wirth Menorca, featuring a dynamic suite of new paintings and sculptures. A dedicated education programme has been developed to engage both the local community and visitors in contemporary art through screenings, talks, and workshops.

Stay at Experimental Menorca

Puglia, Italy

Discover history, tranquility and the luxury of simplicity at Masseria Calderisi. On the edge of the lively beach life, the 17th-century farm has been revived as a charming boutique hotel, surrounded by 24 acres of olive groves, citrus and almond trees, herb gardens and vegetable beds. Once a stately country estate, the spirit of that time can still be felt – cheerful, exuberant and proud.

Milos, Greece

Nausika Georgiadou fell in love with Milos more than 30 years ago. She now runs two properties on the Cycladic island and spends each summer there. Here, she shares the story of how Skinopi Lodge came to be.

New York City, US

Despite what some people think, New York was never dead, even after more than a year of social distancing and businesses shuttering, the city that never sleeps is alive and well. There is hope Europeans are able to enter the US again in September.
