The Provençal Village You Have To Visit In 2023

Where to stay and what to see in one of the quaintest Luberon villages; also officially one of the most beautiful villages in France.

If you’re looking for the quintessential Provençal town away from touristic crows with a lively Café scene, Lourmarin is your next destination. The municipality, which is actually classified as one of the Plus beaux villages de France (most beautiful villages in France, enough said), is enclosed by remnants of a 12th-century fortress. Upon entering, you are greeted by the stunning Fortress-cum-Castle and smiling locals enjoying long sunny days. The outskirts hid the town’s lively center, waiting for your discovery.

We checked into the new Le Moulin, which just opened in early June 2021. The finishings are modern, neutral, and honorary to the area’s greatest assets. Our double suite was of surprise for the region: generous size, ideal comfort, new bathrooms and lovely views.

Staying true to its location, Le Moulin’s restaurant bases their offerings on local, fresh, and inventive - part of the delightful tradition of the Luberon. On a Monday evening, their terrasse had no empty table in sight. Menu offers southern french cuisine, well-priced, and highlights it’s natural wine selection and inventive cocktails. For a short trip, enjoy one evening here and another in the town.

During the day we strolled on over to their sister property, Le Galinier, an easy 10-minute walk away, to an 18th-century bastide (country house) and open to guests of Le Moulin. If you’ve imagined yourself in A Good Year, you’ve found your retreat. You can spend the entire day on the grounds, swimming, playing boule, reading in the endless gardens, sipping on juices from Le Moulin’s new market store, but don’t forget, the town’s center is calling your name to partake in the repas du soir..
