What to Do
- Numerous walking routes can guide you to every corner of this virgin island, some of them across Skiadi, an imposing stone in the shape of a giant mushroom. If you’re not a fan of walking, you can always skim through the waves with a sea taxi that will tour you around the island so you can enjoy the captivating waterfront and volcanic geology from within the waves.
- Should you wish, you can also expand your exploration by visiting the neighboring island of Polyaigos. It is an uninhabited island with magnificent beaches, mainly in the southern part, and belongs to the Cyclades group. It is located on the South Aegean volcanic arc and lies to the west of Kimolos island and, further southwest, of Milos island. The island is the largest uninhabited island in the Aegean Sea.
Beaches
- Kimolos has many beautiful beaches, and visitors should explore as many of them as possible:
- Sheltered from the wind, it features a giant rock and'sirmata’ (caves carved into the rock where locals keep their boats during winter). You can walk to Rema from the Windmill Hotel.
- Klima: Sandy Beach has a calm and serene atmosphere and is on the way to Prassa.
- Prassa: This beach features a beach bar with music and is the most popular on the island. It has natural beauty with white sand and light-blue water.
How to Get There
- By ferry or speed boat from the port of Piraeus near Athens. The journey takes between 4.5 and 7.5 hours, depending on the type of vessel.
- There are regular flight connections between Milos and Athens daily; the flight takes around 40 minutes.
- They can then arrange a taxi to take you to the port of Pollonia in Milos and a local ferry or speedboat taxi (known as "Delfini") to Psathi, the port of Kimolos. The trip lasts from 10 to 25 minutes according to the vessel chosen.
- There is also an island-hopping boat service that interconnects several of the Cycladic islands with two or three stops at Kimolos per week.
