Château du Grand-Lucé

Château du Grand-Lucé

Loire Valley, France

The Château du Grand-Lucé is a French national treasure, located in the Loire Valley, a 55-minute train ride from Paris. This exclusive private enclave of royal proportions was built by a nobleman and has hosted the most discerning travelers for centuries. Built in 1760 and named for the idyllic village in which it is located, this neoclassical French icon has been exquisitely restored. With a vigilant attention to detail, its unapologetically opulent chic interiors are a stunning tribute to its noble provenance and are a gallant steward of its rich history. With a certain éclat reflecting centuries of pure refinement, Hotel Château – with reimagined rooms and suites, ballroom and salons, classical gardens and grounds will deliver unparalleled service and uncompromising splendor.

Wine & Dine

  • „Le Lucé“: Under the thoughtful direction of our remarkable Executive Chef, Maxime Thomas, the cuisine at Hotel Château du Grand-Lucé reflects a subtly modern approach to elevated farm-to-table dining. Inspired by the seasonal produce from the Château’s organic potager gardens, the ever-changing dishes are decidedly French and impossibly fresh. Le Lucé offers a fabulous prix-fixe menu, paired with wines from the Château’s curated collection.

Our Favourite

  • Adjoining Le Lucé is a bar built in the former private chapel of the Baron de Lucé. Cheekily named „Jack Pine’s“ (the English translation of the Baron’s name –– Jacques Pineau de Viennay) in honor of our French-American partnership, it is here that guests can enjoy convivial conversation, try some house cocktails infused with herbs from the potager gardens, and taste fare from Chef Thomas’ elevated Bistro menu.

Local Guide

Good to know

  • Château du Grand-Lucé is an incredible destination for any event and is an enchanting location for a wedding. Built for a nobleman, the Château and the grounds are breathtaking. The symmetry and precision of the classical French gardens, coupled with the eighteenth-century neoclassical architecture of the forty-five thousand square foot château is extraordinary. A ballroom of royal proportions designed in the former stables allows events year-round, in any type of weather. The original twelve-foot tall windows of the ballroom have been draped in a fabulous custom-colored Pierre Frey velvet inspired by the green of the garden, gorgeous French oak point de Hongrie flooring, and resplendent crystal chandeliers and sconces have been installed, resulting in unequaled grandeur. The eighty acres of Loire Valley beauty – with a lake, meadows, historic white oak forest – surrounded by a medieval wall are truly otherworldly. Hotel Château has a stunning orangerie, working greenhouses, exotic garden with a swimming pool, statues given as a gift from King Louis XV, multiple courtyards, terraces and secret gardens. From a grand wedding of noble proportions to une petite soirée in the garden, Hotel Château has infinite possibilities.

Worth getting out of bed for

The 80-acre grounds make the hotel feel like a royal kingdom. Remaining true to French classicism, and inspired by the gardens at Versailles, the Château’s gardens were designed on a north-south axis, with the formal gardens closest to the Château, and with the grounds becoming progressively less structured nearer the woods.
